# Maths Investigation Fridays: 3D Shape Making

Maths Investigation Fridays: 3D Shape Making

Hi Everyone!

Apologises for my delay in uploading this – there have been a few technical difficulties!

A couple of weeks ago in our practical Maths Investigation Fridays we made 3D Shapes out of cocktail sticks and marshmallows!

We talked about the properties of each shape and the 2D shape that it’s faces were made up of.

Here are some of our creations:

We’ll keep you updated with our Maths Investigations !

Hi Everyone!

It’s been a busy few weeks in Class 2 so we thought you were all due an update at home!

This week we have been thinking about all things chocolatey and started off the week by making up a slogan for some well known chocolate bars. We designed and made our own chocolates then wrote an advertisement for it! We even managed to include our own hashtags for social media.

Here are some pictures of the action:

Â

                                                                                                                                                         Â

The recipe for our easy chocolates was:

200g Cream Cheese, 500g Melted Chocolate and 350g Icing Sugar

Mix them all together, Chill for one hour then shape and top them in whichever way you like!

This should make around 60 chocolates.

Speak to you all soon!

# Animal Party!

Animal Party!

After a last minute cancellation last week we were successful in going ahead with our Animal Party!

We all looked fantastic in our outfits and we had great team spirit taking part in all the games to raise money for Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary.

I will post a full amount of what we have raised this year for our Class Charity once i have had chance to total it all up – Again, a massive thank you for all your kind donations!

Here are some pictures of us taking part in the Animal Party, including a class selfie…

Well Done everyone and Thank You to all families that helped get together an outfit!

# The Black Book of Colours

The Black Book of Colours

Hi Everyone!

This week has been a busy week in Class 2! We thought we would share with you one of our special writing topics this week. In order to think more about the reader of our books and to link it in with our new Brilliant Bodies topic, we thought it would be interesting (and challenging!) to make our own Braille Books!

We started off by reading a book called the ‘Black Book of Colours’. Which has special Braille characters in it and pictures that you can feel rather than see.

We then planned our own 3 sentence story and got to work making our stories come to life in Braille. It was tricky trying to make the dots to form the Braille characters, but it really put it into perspective how lucky we are to have such a variety of books to read with ease! Also, it taught us how important learning to read really is!

Here are some pictures of us in the process:

See you all soon!

# Gangsta Granny is in town!

Gangsta Granny is in town!

Well – what a day in Class 2! We had a surprise visit from a (very realistic) Gangsta Granny!

Whilst Miss Breckon ‘popped out of class’ Gangsta Granny came in for an interview.

We have been reading David Walliams’ book called ‘Gangsta Granny’ which is all about Ben and his Notorious Jewel Thief Grandma!

Here are some pictures from the event…

Now we will go on to write a full report to Mr Ollis about our Gangsta Granny visit and exactly what kind of person she was. Who knows, we may even get a reward for tracking down the worlds most wanted Jewel Thief! I don’t know about you, but she sure reminds me of someone!

Catch you all soon!

# Astronomy Club Special

Astronomy Club Special

Hi Everyone!

I thought I would sneak on an Astronomy Club update (since it is nearly all of Class 2!)

This week we learnt about how craters were made on the moon by throwing ‘asteroids’ (marbles) at some of our Moon Dough. If you want to make your own Moon Dough at home it is just flour and baby oil!

 Â

We then looked closely at different Moon phases and made some of our own with Oreos!

Check out some of our Oreo Moon phases below:

If you want to make some more Moon phases with Oreos at home then here are the different phases in picture form!

See you Soon!

# Chester Zoo

Chester Zoo

Hi Everyone!

Well, its already been a busy week in Class 2!

We started off the week with our school trip to Chester Zoo – and what a lovely day it was for it too!

It was bit of a race around to see all of the animals, but I know we all had a fantastic day. Unfortunatley we couldn’t see the Giraffes as a new baby had been born the day before, so they wanted to give them as much privacy as possible! There is some information and a picture of the baby Giraffe on Chester Zoo’s website if you want to find out more: http://www.chesterzoo.org/attractions-and-exhibits/zoo-news/giraffe-birth-2015

After our picnic lunch we took part in a workshop where we got to stroke a real hissing cockroach. Apparently they hiss to scare off their enemies who might mistake them for a snake!

Here are some pictures from our action packed day:

See you soon!

# Which way to go?

Which way to go?

Today we had a practical Maths session outside to round off our revision week!

We had to direct our partner with their eyes closed to follow a path.

We could only use the words right, left, quarter turn, half turn, forwards and backwards.

Here are some pictures of us taking part:

Would you trust your partner to guide you in the right direction?

# How to Train Your Dragon!

Hello Everyone! Sorry it has been a while since our last post – we have been very busy!

This week we have made our own Dragon Eggs to round off our ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ Literacy Topic.

First we used paper maché to make the egg shape and then painted and decorated them. Here are some pictures of us in the painting process!

We look forward to seeing you at our ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ Class Assembly in Church on Friday!

# Class Election

Class Election

Hello Everyone!

On Friday we had a special election to choose two new Health and Safety Counselors for school.

In order to make it a democracy and completely fair for all parties involved, we decided the best way would be to vote!

Candidates who wanted to stand had to write a letter and present to the class their ideas, we then had a ‘Question Time’ for each candidate who had a tough grilling about their ideas from other members of the class.

However, not everything went to plan….

After Toby (also known as the ‘Blah  Blah’ Party) was the clear first choice for our new counselor, we had a draw between Jessica C. (Banana Party) and Tilly (Good to be Green Party) for our second counselor! We re-voted as a class, and again it ended up as an exact draw! In true politics style, Mr. Ollis came to class to solve the up-roar of our ‘hung’ parliament after the surprising turn of events! It was decided that both Banana Party and Good to Be Green Party are to form a coalition and hope to work together to take on a joint role.

Phew,  What an exciting morning!

Here are some pictures from the event!

All 5 Candidates stood their ground during the question time – Well Done!

Keen voters!

Well Done Toby – you wowed voters with your speech, and gained over half of the first vote!

The split vote… what to do!?

Well done to both Tilly and Jessica who created a stir with their double draw in voting!

The final three, ‘Good to be Green Party’ ‘Blah Blah Party’ and ‘Banana Party’!

A final well done to all of Class 2, who took their time to vote and cheer on their favorite party!

That’s all for now , I can’t wait to see what our new Health and Safety Counselors get up to!
